FAQ
Why do I need to use Edmentum?
Edmentum is the online program where you will find most or all of your online courses. It is also a site where you can communicate with your teachers.
Where do I find announcements and messages in Edmentum?
Below is a screenshot of the first page Edmentum will bring up after you log in. Announcements and messages can be found in the column on the right had side of that screen, labeled ‘Alerts’.
You can also see in the bar across the top, there is an orange exclamation point on the ‘Messages’ button. This indicates there is something new. Clicking on any announcement or message, or the messages button at the top, will bring you to the messages page. More information on how to use that page can found at (link to Edmentum message instructions).
Where are my classes in Edmentum?
Below is a screenshot of the first page Edmentum will bring up after you log in. Your classes can be found on the left of the screen, under ‘Active Assignments’. Our Sample student here currently only has one class – you will likely have more. Clicking on ‘continue’ in a class will bring you to either the last thing you were working on, or the next assignment after that. You can also click ‘All Activities’ to see the whole class.
Why are there so many classes?
Your class schedule usually can have up to 6 classes, so you may have an online course for each scheduled class. The list under ‘Active Assignments’ may be longer than that, however, and there are a couple of reasons for that. First, there may be up to 3 Learning Paths on your list. These are not tied to your scheduled classes, but are part of Edmentum’s Exact Path program. Contact your teachers to determine if you are using any of those Learning Paths at this time.
Also, your teachers may assign additional activities, which Edmentum calls Flex Assignments. On your screen, each Flex Assignment will show up as if it were a separate class.
Why did my class disappear?
There are two reasons classes can be removed from your ‘Active Assignments’ list. 1. If you complete every activity in a course, that course will remove itself from your list. It will still be visible to your teacher. 2. Your teacher may have dropped you from that course. This typically should be done at the end of a term or semester, or if a class is completed. If you think this has been done in error, contact your teacher or your counselor.
Why don’t I have the right classes?
You should have the classes on your PowerSchool schedule, up to 3 Learning Paths, and any Flex Assignments your teachers may have assigned. This could be a lot, so first, make sure you’ve scrolled to the bottom of the list under ‘Active Assignments’. If you have done that, and still think that either you have a class you shouldn’t, or that one of your classes isn’t there, contact your teachers. If it’s early in a term or semester, or only a couple of days after you’ve joined our school, they may just not have added or updated your classes yet. In any event, they should be able to correct any errors. If your teachers don’t respond, contact your counselor.
What do I need to do in my classes?
Edmentum courses typically consist of tutorials, mastery tests, post-tests, and a variety of teacher graded activities. The bulk of these classes are the tutorials and mastery tests. You need to complete a tutorial to unlock a mastery test, but it is usually the mastery test that determines your grade for that lesson. Post-tests and the final exam will need to be unlocked by your teacher, so be sure to contact them when you think you are ready for them. You need to complete every activity in a course to complete the course.
Be sure to check with each of your teachers for more details on what they expect you to do in their class.
Why is my activity locked?
That depends on the type of activity. Mastery tests are locked until you complete the tutorial. After a first attempt, they can be unlocked again by going through the tutorial again, but usually only two more times. Post-tests, the final exam, and any mastery tests that have been attempted 3 or more times will need to be manually unlocked by your teacher. Contact your teacher to have them unlocked.
Also note that any assignment that needed to be unlocked will lock again when you exit it or the Edmentum program. So you may need to request an assignment be unlocked multiple times, if you need to work on it in small chunks.
Most other assignments should not be locked, unless your teacher has decided to close off parts of the class. Contact your teacher for more details.
What is the course grade?
The course grade is the grade calculated by Edmentum with a 0 in every activity that has not yet been completed. If you haven’t done much in a class yet, that grade will be very low. As you complete more of the class, it should be closer to the current grade. Your final grade in the course will likely be this course grade, or close to it, so remember that you need to attempt every activity in a course to complete it.
What is the current grade?
The current grade is the grade calculated by Edmentum for the work you’ve done so far. If you’ve completed the class, it should be the same as the course grade. But if there’s still work to do, it will be a better grade than your course grade. This grade reflects only the work you’ve already done. Remember that you need to attempt every activity in a course to complete it. Having a passing current grade is not enough to earn credit in a class.
How do I fix a poor score on a test?
Mastery tests can be re-done as many times as necessary. Unless your teacher has set things up differently, it should indicate that it's not 'mastered' if you got less than 80%. You can unlock that mastery test again by going through the tutorial again. If that doesn't unlock the mastery test, contact your teacher.
Post tests and final exams can also be re-done, if needed. Since these need to be manually unlocked by your teacher anyway, if you need to re-do them, you'll need to contact your teacher.
Why did Edmentum log me out?
Edmentum will time out if you spend too long (usually 30 minutes) on the same page. Unfortunately, it does not usually inform you of this, and will remain on that page, so you'll only notice that you've been logged off when you try to move on to something else.
There really is no way to avoid this except working, and making sure Edmentum sees that you're working. If you are reading parts of the tutorial or an assignment that takes a long time, be sure to click back to the previous page, then back again, occasionally. If you are typing, you might want to hit 'save and exit' and then return to work after a few minutes to avoid timing out.
You could also be logged out if you attempt to log in on another device, or if you just open the log-in page again by mistake.
If you continue to run into problems staying logged into Edmentum, contact your teachers.
