reading and writing at home

Reading instruction consists of five main areas:

  • phonemic awareness
  • phonics
  • vocabulary
  • fluency
  • comprehension

Teachers have been working with students identifying their strengths and weaknesses in these five areas.  Many students who are struggling in a specific area are being given interventions/activities from the Florida Center for Reading Research.  This website offers activities to work on the 5 Big Ideas for reading skills for students in grades K-5.  The website has these activities grouped for grades K-1, 2-3 and 4-5.  I hope you will find the attached link both informational and useful in working with your children at home.
